Two Fort Smith streets to be renamed after former Miss America, former judge (nwahomepage.com) — Fort Smith's Board of Directors has voted to rename parts of Gary Street and Riverfront Drive to honor Miss America 2024 Madison Marsh and the late Judge Jim Spears. The changes highlight Marsh's Southside High roots and Spears' role in bringing the U.S. Marshals Museum to town, continuing a recent trend of celebrating notable Fort Smith natives with street names.
   

2. Fort Smith water customers asked to conserve after main break drains reserves (4029tv.com) — Fort Smith water customers, especially those south of Zero Street, are being asked to conserve water after a Highway 45 main break drained storage tanks, prompting mandatory restrictions on lawn watering and car washing in some neighborhoods. Although the break is repaired, officials say high demand is slowing tank refills and urge citywide conservation through the weekend to protect fire flows and everyday use.
   

3. Prosecutor: 4 Fort Smith officers justified in use of force against suspect that shot Kyle Newman (5newsonline.com) — Sebastian County's prosecutor has ruled that four Fort Smith police officers were justified in using deadly force against Joshua Keller, who shot Officer Kyle Newman during a May traffic stop. Newman, initially critically injured after being shot in the neck, has since recovered, while an autopsy showed Keller's blood alcohol level was over three times the legal limit.
   

4. UAFS to commemorate 9/11 with stair walk (nwahomepage.com subscription) — Community members in Fort Smith are invited to join UAFS's Army ROTC Lion Company for a 9/11 memorial stair climb at the Stubblefield Center on the morning of Sept. 11. Participants, including students, law enforcement, and first responders, will tackle 110 flights in a serpentine pattern, with optional full gear, as a shared way to remember the lives lost in the attacks.
   

5. Vendor at center of Leon County court crisis has history of problems (miramarflnews.com) — Fort Smith officials have cut ties with public safety software vendor ProPhoenix after an overseas employee accessed the city's 911 system, violating FBI security rules and triggering plans for a $1.2 million refund demand. The same company's software has also caused major court-records problems in Florida and previously drew complaints in Ohio, raising broader questions about its reliability for critical public safety systems.
