Altadena Residents: Free Sandbags Available for Ahead of Storm Season (southpasadenan.com) — Altadena residents can now pick up free sandbags for the 2026–27 storm season, including up to 25 filled bags at the county yard on Mountain View Street. The site is already open and will be staffed before forecasted rain, with additional self-service sandbag supplies available in Malibu and at Los Angeles fire stations for city residents.
   

2. UCLA research confirms extreme toxicity of Eaton Fire smoke - Hey SoCal. Change is our intention. (heysocal.com) — Altadena residents living near Eaton Canyon are learning that while toxic smoke from the 2025 Eaton Fire quickly dissipated from the air, dangerous levels of lead and asbestos remain in neighborhood soils even after cleanup. A UCLA study and local surveys suggest thousands of Altadena homes may still be unsafe, especially for children and vulnerable adults, underscoring ongoing health and remediation concerns.
   

3. How prefab homes can speed up rebuilding after LA's fires (marketplace.org) — An Altadena family describes how their home, destroyed in the 2025 wildfire, is being rebuilt far faster than expected using prefabricated cross-laminated timber panels. Their experience shows how mass-timber prefab construction can speed recovery, improve fire resistance, and potentially help other local fire survivors rebuild more quickly and sustainably.

Southern California Edison hosting fall community events ahead of compensation program deadline (pasadenastarnews.com) — Altadena residents affected by the Eaton fire still have until Nov. 30 to apply for Southern California Edison's Wildfire Recovery Compensation Program, which has already paid out over $525 million. Edison and a coalition of wildfire attorneys are holding information events, including in Altadena, to explain options, deadlines, and how compensation interacts with ongoing lawsuits.
