INLAND EMPIRE, CA — California Highway Patrol officers will be ramping up patrols on state highways and roads across Riverside County beginning Thursday to catch drunk and drug-impaired drivers, as part of the agency's annual Fourth of July weekend crackdown.
The statewide holiday enforcement period will begin at 6 p.m. Thursday and conclude at 11:59 p.m. Sunday, during which all available officers will hit the streets for targeted patrols.
Officers from the Beaumont, Blythe, Indio, Riverside and Temecula CHP stations will deploy on Inland Empire freeways, highways and unincorporated roads for this year's effort.

CHP Commissioner Sean Duryee said officers will concentrate on speed deterrence, deploying 100 low-profile cruisers to identify drivers engaged in dangerous maneuvers.
"Reckless driving and speeding continue to endanger lives on California's roadways," Duryee said. "As families and friends travel this holiday weekend, we urge everyone to slow down, be considerate of others and make responsible choices behind the wheel. Getting there safely is what matters most."
