1. UC Berkeley startups generate $300 million countywide, according to Haas School of Business (dailycal.org) — UC Berkeley–affiliated startups are pumping about $200 million into the city's economy and supporting more than 500 high-paying jobs in Berkeley, according to a new Haas School study. Researchers say campus incubators like Bakar Labs and the broader innovation ecosystem are drawing founders to stay or relocate here, with even more startup space planned in the UC Berkeley Innovation Zone by 2028.
   

2. Berkeley gets $850,000 for new Ashby BART plaza design (berkeleyside.org) — South Berkeley's Ashby BART area is getting an $850,000 federal boost to design a new public plaza and open spaces along Adeline Street. City leaders say the community-driven process will also plan a permanent home for the Berkeley Flea Market and support a future transit-oriented housing project with up to 600 homes, half reserved as affordable units.
   

3. BPD announces $50K reward for information about decade-old unsolved murder (dailycal.org) — Berkeley police are now offering a $50,000 reward for information in the 2016 killing of 22-year-old Alex Goodwin Jr. near San Pablo Park. Backed by his family's advocacy and a City Council-approved reward increase, investigators hope new tips will finally identify those responsible as the family continues community work through their nonprofit All Things Ayegee.
   

4. The Green Bring TITLES Tour 2026 to The UC Theatre in Berkeley (gratefulweb.com) — A major reggae stop is coming to downtown Berkeley as The Green's TITLES Tour hits the UC Theatre on Sunday, Oct. 4, 2026, with Johnny Suite. The all-ages show offers GA standing room, easy BART access, and nearby parking, giving local fans a convenient way to catch one of Hawaii's most influential reggae bands live.
