Teen Burglary Suspect Killed After Struggle For Gun In Fremont Apartment: Police

FREMONT, CA — A teen was killed in Fremont Friday night after trying to burglarize an apartment and getting into a struggle for a gun with another person, police said.

Two teens forced their way into an apartment on San Pedro Drive around noon on Friday with the intention of burglarizing it, the Fremont Police Department said.

There were multiple people inside the apartment, and the suspects, who were armed, assaulted them, police said.

At some point, one of the teens got into a struggle with someone inside the apartment, police said. That person managed to get hold of a gun during the struggle and fired it towards the suspects.

The gunfire struck one of the teens, who died shortly after authorities took him to a local hospital, according to authorities. Police did not release the teen's identity.

The second teen ran off but was located soon after by police, according to authorities. He was taken into custody on suspicion of residential burglary and felony assault with a semiautomatic firearm. His identity was not released due to his age.

It's unclear if the teens knew the people inside the apartment before the shooting. Two of the people inside the apartment were injured during the incident, but nothing life-threatening, police said.

This was the city's third homicide this year, police said.
