ICE Detains At Least 2 In Hayward As Community Mobilizes To Offer Support
"It is deeply troubling that families and neighbors must experience this," the city's mayor said.
HAYWARD, CA — Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents arrested two people in Hayward on Monday, officials confirmed, as the Trump administration continues to ramp up arrests in California amid the upcoming elections.
"I recognize the fear, uncertainty, and distress that incidents like this create, not only for the families directly affected, but for our neighborhoods and our entire Hayward community," Mayor Mark Salinas said on social media. "It is deeply troubling that families and neighbors must experience this."
ICE did not immedietly respond to Patch's request for comment.

The incident comes as President Donald Trump doubles down on its immigration crackdown, calling for ICE to make 3,000 arrests each day. Last week, ICE detained at least three people across the Bay Area, including one person in Oakland.
Alameda County Immigration Legal Education Partnership, a countywide collaborative network founded nearly a decade ago to protect, support, and empower undocumented communities in the region, soon after accused the agency of using "brutal" force to make the arrests.

ICE countered those claims last week, saying officers use "the minimum amount of force necessary to resolve dangerous situations." An ICE spokesperson added that each person they arrested was resisting and officers disobeying commands.
On Monday, ICE was spotted around 7:15 a.m. near A and Filbert Streets in Hayward, according to the Alameda County Immigration Legal Education Partnership.
"Around four ICE officers, some in plain clothes and carrying visible weapons, were observed with three to four vehicles," the collaborative said. "At this time, we are not aware of any other related ICE arrests in Hayward today. Please stay alert, remember your rights, and share only verified information."
Following the arrests, the focus now shifts to providing the impacted families with legal resources and making sure community members receive accurate information, Salinas and the Alameda County collaborative said.
"There are still many unanswered questions," Salinas said. "My office will continue working with local agencies and community partners to gather verified information, coordinate assistance, and respond appropriately as more details become available."
