Danville Police To Take Part In Multi-Agency E-Bike Enforcement Day Tuesday
Police all over the East Bay are conducting an enforcement day to focus on unsafe behaviors and increase compliance with local laws.
DANVILLE, CA — The Danville Police Department will join forces with several neighboring law enforcement agencies to promote e-bike safety on the Iron Horse Trail on Tuesday.
The multi-agency e-bike enforcement collaboration aims to promote safer riding practices, increase compliance with traffic laws, and address unsafe behaviors. The California Highway Patrol, Contra Costa County Sheriff’s Office, East Bay Regional Park District Police, and police departments in Walnut Creek, San Ramon, Dublin, and other nearby cities are also taking part.
The department said it plans to host another enforcement day on Sept. 17.

On Aug. 6, Danville began enforcing a new ordinance requiring e-bike and motorized scooter riders to dismount while inside town parks. California recognizes three classes of e-bike. Class 1 bikes have pedal assist and can travel up to 20 mph, Class 2 bikes have throttle and/or pedal assist and can travel up to 20 mph, and Class 3 bikes have pedal assist and can travel up to 28 mph. Anyone riding a Class 3 bike must be 16 or older and are required to wear a helmet. Class 1 and 2 e-bikes are allowed on the Iron Horse Trail, while Class 3 e-bikes and motorized scooters are not allowed on most multi-use trails in Danville.
