Blaze Breaks Out In Sonoma County

Firefighters halt forward progress as crews remain to make sure no hotspots remain.

SONOMA COUNTY, CA — Firefighters fought off a vegetation fire Thursday afternoon, one of several over the afternoon.

The fire broke out in the 3600 block of Kelsey Knolls in Santa Rosa in an area with small, fine materials that ignite easily and burn quickly, according to Cal Fire Sonoma-Lake-Napa.

Smoke could be seen from north Santa Rosa.

However, Cal Fire reported that the fire was slow to spread.

The fire burned about an acre by 2:15 p.m., but firefighters from the Santa Rosa Fire Department and Cal Fire had stopped the burn's forward progress by then.

No structures burned and no evacuations ordered, according to the Santa Rosa Fire Department.

Crews were expected to remain in the area for several hours working on fully containing the fire and putting out hot spots.
