Hefty Quake Swarm Shakes 3 NorCal Counties: Did You Feel Them?

NORTHERN CALIFORNIA, CA — A swarm of at least four earthquakes struck Sonoma and two nearby counties this morning, the U.S. Geological Survey reported.

The first quake happened about 2:42 a.m. just north of the Geysers and about a half an hour from Loch Lomond. The quake was recorded at a depth of approximately 2.3 miles.

A second Lake County tremblor, this one 2.5 and shallower, hit nearby two minutes later.

The third quake struck just northeast of Healdsburg, and south of The Geysers.

That one registered a magnitude of 2.7 with a depth of 1.1 miles and was felt from Geyserville to at least Santa Rosa.

"Pretty good shaker up in Northern Sonoma County: 4.4 magnitude," wrote California Sen. Mike McGuire on Facebook. "Also felt widely in the Cobb/Middletown region of Lake County. No early reports of major damage. Definitely big enough to wake folks up."

Indeed, one woman wrote on Facebook, "Woke me up in Healdsburg."

Another wrote, that "...my earthquake alert on my phone went off. I’m in Santa Rosa and didn’t feel anything. But I’m definitely awake now."

"Felt it down in Calistoga!" a woman in Napa Valley wrote.

Farther north, "The bed was a magic carpet for a few seconds in Rincon Valley," reported a woman.

Two more then shook Mendocino County right outside of Covelo. The first of that set struck at 11:15 a.m., followed six minutes later by a stronger one — 2.7 magnitude. The duo registered a depth of 4.2 and 3.2, respectively.

No injuries or damage have been reported. The last set of earthquakes in the area struck in March.
