On this week’s Jam’ n Java...Robby Robinson is taking us on a musical joyride back to the 1960s.
When it comes to genre-defying music...the 1960s had it all. Perhaps this is why the music of the 1960s remains timeless.
This music is 60 years old...yet hasn’t aged a day...and never will.
The music of the 1960s has transcended two millenniums, seven decades, time, space and multiple generations!
The door to the 1960s opened gently with 1950s-inspired holdover styles, such as rockabilly and doo-wop, evolved into Rock, Pop, Soul, Motown and R&B, morphed into British Invasion, East and West Coast sounds, Bubblegum Pop, Folk-Rock, Protest songs, Country-Pop, Jazz-Rock and Hard Rock, and blew the door wide open, delving into Psychedelic Rock, Progressive Rock, and fledgling Heavy Metal sounds, while introducing the singer/songwriter concept, setting the stage for the 1970s and beyond.
The neighborly atmosphere of the era, as well as variety programs such as “The Ed Sullivan Show”, graciously allowed “room” for every imaginable style of music.
Multiple genres of music often topped the charts at the same time...making the 1960s one of the most volatile, spectacular, experimental and creative musical decades of all time.
The 1960s presented a rare era where a Classic Crooner, a Hard Rocker, a Country-Western star, an Opera diva, and a Jazz artist could all coexist in harmony side-by-side on the charts!
There was an unspoken respect and camaraderie between artists of differing styles and genres which needs to be re-ignited today!
The music of the 1960s remains the fabric of our lives till this day. Everywhere you go there is some relic of the 1960s still playing in the background.
Music of the 1960s was imaginative, explosive, creative and daring.
Today’s kids seek the music of the 1960s for something cool and different...and thanks to sites like TikTok, Spotify and YouTube they find exactly what they are looking for and often discover more! Older generations cling to the music to evoke memories of a simpler time and place.
The music of the 1960s will never die.
“Were the 1960s the greatest decade in music? Tonight, we’ll take a trip back to a time when every week seemed to bring another unforgettable song, another legendary artist, and another record that would stand the test of time. We'll revisit the music, the memories, and the artists that continue to touch our hearts more than 60 years later,” said Jam’ n Java host Robby Robinson. “We’ll also delve into how the Hammond Organ helped shape the sound of the 60s and revisit stories from some of our favorite guests, including: Joey Dee, Florence LaRue (5th Dimension), The Association, The Buckinghams, Chris Montez, Vanilla Fudge, Felix Cavaliere (The Rascals), Freddie Cannon, Sam the Sham, and 𝙁𝙧𝙖𝙣𝙠𝙞𝙚 𝙑𝙖𝙡𝙡𝙞 & 𝙏𝙝𝙚 𝙁𝙤𝙪𝙧 𝙎𝙚𝙖𝙨𝙤𝙣𝙨, who are 𝙖𝙡𝙬𝙖𝙮𝙨 𝙘𝙚𝙣𝙩𝙧𝙖𝙡 𝙩𝙤 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙨𝙤𝙪𝙣𝙙𝙩𝙧𝙖𝙘𝙠 𝙤𝙛 𝙢𝙮 𝙢𝙪𝙨𝙞𝙘𝙖𝙡 𝙡𝙞𝙛𝙚 and more! And we’ll settle a few friendly debates...Beatles vs. Four Seasons, Motown vs. British Invasion and 60s vs. 70s. Could music like this ever happen again?”
