📰 News we're reading
• Candidates Call on Mayor to Hire COO (voiceofsandiego.org) — Imperial Beach's shoreline is closed again after heavy rain in the Tijuana River watershed sent over 168 million gallons of polluted water surging north, pushing bacteria levels off the pier to at least ten times the safe limit. County testing later found contamination roughly 50 times above guidelines, underscoring how regional sewage infrastructure in Baja California continues to foul Imperial Beach whenever storms hit.

• Inshore - Inshore bluefin off IB (bdoutdoors.com) — An angler launching from Shelter Island reports a productive morning fishing just off Imperial Beach, where they quickly hooked several 12–15 pound yellowtail despite working hard to make bait. While slow-trolling back north in only 85 feet of water, they capped the half-day trip by landing an 18-pound bluefin tuna surprisingly close to home before trailering the boat by noon.

• Border Patrol Nabs Illegals Using Jet Skis to Enter CA (610kona.com) — Border Patrol agents intercepted two people on jet skis as they tried to land on Imperial Beach after riding up the coast from Mexico, ultimately detaining and returning them to Mexico. Officials say this kind of smuggling attempt is not unusual along the Imperial Beach shoreline, where increased patrols now include agents on the sand ready to respond quickly.
