INLAND EMPIRE, CA — In a disaster, a readily available box of emergency supplies can mean the difference between feeling hopeless and hopeful. This month, thanks to a joint partnership between Aldi and Feeding America, over 1,300 shelf-stable disaster-relief boxes are now available to San Bernardino County and Riverside County residents, ready for when they need them most.

Vanessa Rangel-Mercado, interim CEO of FARSB, spoke about the joint initiative to ensure no family goes without during critical times.

“The Inland Empire (IE) is home to several areas that are heavily affected by wildfires, so disaster relief is critical to feeding the IE,” Rangel-Mercado said. “Fortunately, there is no immediate need as of yet, but we continue to ensure that there is food available in times of crisis so we can get the items out to those affected swiftly.”

This event showcases ALDI's community support and ensures families in need during a natural disaster have access to critical food supplies. This disaster-relief donation will preemptively support efforts to alleviate hunger in disaster-affected areas where rebuilding may be necessary, and food insecurity can add an additional burden to an already complicated situation.

According to Aldi, in 2026, hundreds of employees across the country volunteered their time to pack over 5,000 boxes of shelf-stable ALDI products and ship them to Feeding America warehouses nationwide for use in emergencies or natural disasters, including hurricane relief.

"In addition to prepositioning disaster relief boxes, we work with our network of 25 warehouses across the country and suppliers to provide Feeding America with products to support their relief efforts," they said.

Requests for boxed items range from baby food and diapers to ready-to-eat items and water bottles to bleach and cleaning supplies.

"Though FARSB’s mission is to feed families within the IE, especially as the holiday season approaches, the organization is grateful for ALDI's local support, which helped it receive community support in times of crisis," said Rangel-Mercado. "(Feeding America) remains steadfast in serving the region’s needs while standing ready to help beyond that mission when relief is needed."
