Inaugural LA Indie Book Crawl Gets Underway Friday With Stops Across The County
Thirteen bookstores across Los Angeles County are participating in the first-ever event.
LOS ANGELES, CA — The inaugural Los Angeles Indie Book Crawl will get underway Friday, inviting readers to visit independent bookstores across the region during a three-day celebration of local booksellers.
The free event runs through Sunday and encourages participants to visit participating bookstores, make a purchase of at least $10 at each location and collect passport stamps to qualify for prizes.
Readers who collect stamps from all 13 participating bookstores will receive a commemorative goodie bag and be entered into a drawing for $25 gift cards to each bookstore, valued at a combined $325, according to organizers.

Participating bookstores in the San Fernando and San Gabriel valleys are Annabelle's Book Club LA in Studio City, Once Upon A Time in Montrose and Vroman's Bookstore in Pasadena.
Los Angeles bookstores are Book Soup in West Hollywood, Chevalier's Books in Larchmont Village and Skylight Books in Los Feliz.

Participating bookstores on the Westside and in South Bay are Diesel, A Bookstore in Santa Monica, Children's Book World in West Los Angeles, The Ripped Bodice, Village Well Books & Coffee and Malik Books in Culver City, The Book Jewel in Westchester and pages: a bookstore in Manhattan Beach.
Authors scheduled to appear during the weekend include Taylor Jenkins Reid, Gabrielle Zevin, Marie Lu, Suzanne and Max Lang, Liz Kerin, Sarah Langan, Rebekah Faubion, Carlyn Greenwald and Justine Pucella Winans. Organizers said appearance schedules are subject to change.
"Independent bookstores are having a resurgence," Jennifer Caspar, founder and owner of Village Well Books & Coffee, said in a statement. "They are the third places people need more than ever in this era of digital optimization ... People still like to browse, touch and see physical books, and hang out in stores where community and culture meet."
Organizers said the event is modeled after similar book crawls in San Diego and Seattle and is intended to encourage readers to discover independent bookstores throughout Los Angeles while supporting local businesses.
