Major Closures Planned At 101, 170 And 134 Freeway Interchanges

LOS ANGELES, CA — Drivers traveling on the 101 Freeway through the Cahuenga Pass should expect overnight lane and ramp closures beginning Monday as Caltrans continues a pavement improvement project.

The closures are scheduled through Saturday and will affect both directions of the freeway between Highland Avenue and the 170 Freeway.

At times, the northbound 101 will be reduced to just one open lane. Several freeway connectors will also be completely closed overnight, which will force drivers do get off the freeway at certain times.

Here's what drivers need to know, according to Caltrans.

Lane Closures

Monday through Friday morning:

• Northbound 101: Up to three lanes closed from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. Up to four lanes will be closed from 2 a.m. to 4 a.m.
• Southbound 101: Up to two lanes closed from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.

Friday through Saturday morning:

• Northbound 101: Up to three lanes closed from 10 p.m. to 9 a.m. Up to four lanes will be closed from 4 a.m. to 5 a.m.
• Southbound 101: Up to two lanes closed from 10 p.m. to 8 a.m.

Freeway Connector Closures

Monday through Friday morning:

• Northbound 101 (Hollywood Freeway) to northbound 101 (Ventura Freeway): Closed from 11:59 p.m. to 6 a.m.
• Southbound 101 (Hollywood Freeway) to eastbound 134 Freeway: Closed from 11:59 p.m. to 6 a.m.
• Southbound 101 (Ventura Freeway) to southbound 101 (Hollywood Freeway): Closed from 11:59 p.m. to 6 a.m.
• Southbound 170 Freeway to southbound 101: Closed from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m.

Friday through Saturday morning:

• Northbound 101 (Hollywood Freeway) to northbound 101 (Ventura Freeway): Closed from 1 a.m. to 7 a.m.
• Southbound 101 (Hollywood Freeway) to eastbound 134 Freeway: Closed from 11:59 p.m. to 7 a.m.
• Southbound 101 (Ventura Freeway) to southbound 101 (Hollywood Freeway): Closed from 11:59 p.m. to 7 a.m.
• Southbound 170 Freeway to southbound 101: Closed from 11 p.m. to 6 a.m.

Detours For Connector Closures

Caltrans provided the following detours for drivers affected by the weekday connector closures:

• Northbound 101 toward the Ventura Freeway: Exit at Vineland Avenue, travel north on Vineland, west on Moorpark Street and north on Tujunga Avenue to reenter the 101.
• Southbound 101 toward eastbound 134: Exit at Vineland Avenue, head north on Vineland and east on Riverside Drive to the 134 on-ramp.
• Southbound 101 toward the Hollywood Freeway: Exit at Vineland Avenue, travel east on Riverside Drive and south on Vineland to reenter the 101.
• Southbound 170 toward southbound 101: Continue onto eastbound 134, exit at Cahuenga Boulevard and head south on Cahuenga and Lankershim boulevards to the southbound 101 on-ramp.

Monday through Friday morning:

Northbound 101:

• Cahuenga Boulevard: 10 p.m. to 6 a.m.
• Eastbound Universal Studios Boulevard: 9 p.m. to 6 a.m.
• Westbound Universal Studios Boulevard/W.C. Fields Drive: 10 p.m. to 6 a.m.
• Ventura Boulevard: 7 p.m. to 6 a.m.
• Westbound Ventura Boulevard: 7 p.m. to 11 a.m.
• Northbound Moorpark Street: 8 p.m. to 6 a.m.

Southbound 101:

• Barham Boulevard: 10 p.m. to 6 a.m.
• Universal Studios Boulevard: 10 p.m. to 6 a.m.
• Eastbound Ventura Boulevard: 10 p.m. to 6 a.m.
• Eastbound Vineland Avenue: 8 p.m. to 6 a.m.

Friday through Saturday morning:

• Eastbound Universal Studios Boulevard: 9 p.m. to 11 a.m.

• Northbound Moorpark Street: 8 p.m. to 10 a.m.

Southbound 101:

• Barham Boulevard: 10 p.m. to 11 a.m.
• Universal Studios Boulevard: 11 p.m. to 11 a.m.
• Eastbound Ventura Boulevard: 2 a.m. to 11:59 a.m.
• Eastbound Vineland Avenue: 8 p.m. to 9 a.m.

• Barham Boulevard: 10 p.m. to 6 a.m.
• Universal Studios Boulevard/W.C. Fields Drive: 8 p.m. to 6 a.m.
• Lankershim Boulevard: 11:59 p.m. to 6 a.m.
• Ventura Boulevard: 8 p.m. to 6 a.m.
• Vineland Avenue: 7 p.m. to 9 a.m.

Southbound 101:

• Highland Avenue: 10 p.m. to 6 a.m.
• Lankershim Boulevard: 9 p.m. to 6 a.m.
• Vineland Avenue: 7 p.m. to 6 a.m.

Eastbound 134 Freeway:

• Riverside Drive: 7 p.m. to 6 a.m.

Friday through Saturday morning:

Northbound 101:

• Barham Boulevard: 10 p.m. to 10 a.m.
• Universal Studios Boulevard/W.C. Fields Drive: 10 p.m. to 8 a.m.
• Lankershim Boulevard: 11:59 p.m. to 8 a.m.
• Ventura Boulevard: 8 p.m. to 11:59 a.m.
• Vineland Avenue: 7 p.m. to 11:59 a.m.

Southbound 101:

• Highland Avenue: 11:59 p.m. to 9 a.m.
• Lankershim Boulevard: 9 p.m. to 10 a.m.
• Vineland Avenue: 7 p.m. to 11:59 a.m.

Eastbound 134 Freeway:

• Riverside Drive: 7 p.m. to 11:59 a.m.

Caltrans said closure schedules are subject to change. Additional overnight closures of freeway connectors and ramps may occur as crews move between work areas.

Drivers should allow extra travel time and follow posted detour signs.
