1. Lineage Fire: What Los Angeles and California Have Done and What Happens Next (parriva.com) — Los Angeles officials are tightening rules and withholding rebuilding permits at the Lineage cold‑storage site in Boyle Heights while rolling out health services, cleanup, and aid for affected residents and businesses. New state laws AB 817 and SB 716, inspired by this fire, add financial contingency requirements and stronger penalties for large facilities, but many questions remain about rebuilding, compensation, and long‑term enforcement in Los Angeles.
   

2. LA Metro awards ENC $337 million contract for 220 electric buses (sustainable-bus.com) — LA Metro has approved a $337.7 million contract for 220 new battery-electric buses, a move that will more than double its electric fleet serving Los Angeles riders by 2028. The deal, awarded to ENC with options for up to 1,600 more buses, supports Metro's push toward zero-emission service ahead of the 2028 Olympics and could also benefit other local transit agencies through shared purchase options.
   

3. Long Beach braces for another round of high surf, this time via Hurricane Polo (foxla.com) — Los Angeles County beaches, including the Long Beach Peninsula, are under High Surf and Coastal Flood advisories from early Monday through Tuesday as Hurricane Polo sends powerful swells toward Southern California. Residents still repairing Hurricane Marie's damage are seeing new shoreline reinforcements, but forecasters warn of 4‑ to 7‑foot surf, dangerous rip currents, beach erosion, and possible flooding around high tides.
   

4. California Critical Access Hospital Announces Cybersecurity Incident (hipaajournal.com) — A Los Angeles-based nonprofit, Vista Del Mar Child and Family Services, is investigating a cybersecurity breach that exposed protected health information for at least 500 people, though services reportedly continued without interruption. The incident, along with similar breaches at facilities in California and other states, has prompted law enforcement notification and new security measures. Affected individuals will receive mailed notices once the data review is complete.
