• Jury selection begins in Meta youth harms trial in California federal court (wtrf.com) — Menlo Park-based Meta is heading into jury selection in a major Oakland federal trial over whether Facebook and Instagram harm youth mental health and illegally track children. Twenty-nine states want big penalties and safety changes, while Meta insists it's already invested heavily in protections and is appealing a separate multimillion-dollar New Mexico judgment. 
• Mark Zuckerberg encouraged growth over child safety, ex-Meta executive testifies at trial (valawyersweekly.com) — Meta, the Menlo Park-based parent of Facebook and Instagram, is on trial in Oakland over claims from 29 states that it put growth ahead of children's safety and misused kids' data. A former engineering director testified that major safety changes only happened when ordered by Mark Zuckerberg, as states seek penalties and platform changes affecting young users nationwide.
