4 Months After Menifee Man Dies, Police Are Now Searching For A Hit-And-Run Driver

Douglas Andrews, 59, was found dead inside a home. Police think he was struck earlier by a hit-and-run driver.

MENIFEE, CA — The public's help is needed to find a driver who fatally struck a man in Menifee late last year, police announced Tuesday.

Shortly before 7 p.m. on Dec. 30, officers with the Menifee Police Department were called about a man lying down on Eller Way.

A concerned citizen filed the police report because they were worried that the man, later identified as 59-year-old Douglas Andrews, would be hit by a vehicle.

People who knew Andrews were at the scene and said he had been drinking alcohol. Andrews told police he just wanted to go to bed, and he did not appear to be suffering from any injuries, according to Menifee PD.

"Those present agreed to transport [Andrews] to his nearby residence," police said.

The next afternoon, Andrews was discovered dead inside a home in the 28000 block of Blue Diamond Lane.

An autopsy was conducted on Andrews in coordination with the Menifee Police Department. The coroner's report was received this month, according to the law enforcement agency.

The findings noted "severe bruising to the victim’s torso and injuries consistent with internal trauma from being struck by a motor vehicle," according to Menifee police.

"At this time, investigators believe Andrews was the victim of a hit-and-run traffic collision before officers made contact with him on December 30, 2025," police said.

The investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information regarding the incident is asked to contact Detective Kaub at JKaub@Menifeepolice.org or 951-723-1656.
