'Wear Something Pink, Or With Ducks:' RivCo Girl's Funeral Is Planned As Funds Pour In For Her Family
Dominic, her brother, is making gains daily. He is awake and showing that he is very strong and a fighter.
PERRIS, CA — The Perris family of an 8-year-old girl killed in a suspected DUI crash has been lifted up by their community, with the goal nearly met during this time of extreme loss. The crash also critically injured her brother, Domenic, and the GoFundMe has nearly reached the $40,000 goal as of Friday.
So far, 586 people have donated toward the family in their time of suffering, with Friday morning donations totaling $34,800, 87% of the goal.
The Aug. 15 crash at the intersection of Ramona Expressway and Rider Street killed Camila Leon and critically injured her brother Dominic, according to the GoFundMe page.
"Lady (her mother) and Andrés (her father) are by Domenic's side at the hospital. At the parents' request, the beneficiary of the GoFundMe will be Citlali, Lady’s Sister. Citlali is the one handling everything behind the scenes so that they can remain focused on Dominic and by his side," a recent post explained.
A vigil was held Thursday night at the crash site on what would have been Camila's ninth birthday. Now, her funeral is being planned for Sept. 8 at Our Lady of Guadadalupe Lawn.
"Wear pink or something with ducks," the family asked.
Silvia Corona, 52, of San Jacinto, pleaded not guilty Monday to second- degree murder and four counts of DUI resulting in great bodily injury. She is being held in lieu of $1 million bail at the Smith Correctional Facility.
According to a sheriff's bail-setting affidavit, at 5:35 p.m. Aug. 15, Corona was driving her 2017 Lexus RX350 southbound on the Ramona Expressway "at an unsafe speed" that left virtually no possibility for her to stop when the traffic light at the Expressway and Rider Street changed.
"Corona proceeded into the intersection on a red signal and broadsided a 2018 Lexus that was making a lawful left turn from Rider," the declaration said. "Corona had made no attempt to stop prior to the collision and had been traveling at such a high rate of speed, it took her vehicle 326 feet to stop after the collision while driving uphill and out of control."
An intake blood sample showed Corona had an 0.28% blood-alcohol level, according to the sheriff's statement, more than three times the 0.08%.legal limit to drive.
