'Welcome Forum' Brings Together More Than 400 MSJC Student-Athletes As New School Year Begins

SAN JACINTO, CA — More than 400 Mt. San Jacinto College student-athletes from across the district gathered at the MSJC San Jacinto Campus Theater on Friday for the college's annual Athletics Welcome Forum.

The event brought together student-athletes representing 13 sports. College leadership, coaches, and staff were also on hand to launch the 2026-27 academic and athletic year, connect students with campus resources, and emphasize academic success alongside athletic performance.

MSJC Superintendent/President Dr. Tawny Dotson encouraged student-athletes to utilize the support systems available across the district.

"You have support systems at MSJC to help you succeed. Your coaches and faculty want to make sure that you can compete in the classroom and on the court," Dotson said. "Here is my advice: If you have a question, ask. Do not fear the question."

Dotson, who also serves as vice chair of the California Community College Athletic Association, promised to be a frequent presence at Eagles events throughout the season.

Mt. San Jacinto Community College District Trustee Brian Sylva reminded attendees that their responsibilities extend beyond competition.

"You are student-athletes, but also future leaders and community builders," Sylva said. "The Board expects you to remain eligible, healthy, and successful. Success starts in the classroom and carries over into competition."

Patrick Springer, dean of athletics and student life, noted that the forum sets a unified tone for the incoming athletes across all sports programs.

"We want every Eagle to know that we are invested in their success as students first, as athletes, and as members of our community," Springer said.

Fall competition for the MSJC Eagles will begin shortly, including football games at HCN Bank Stadium on the Menifee Valley Campus.
