Burn Operations Today In Berryessa Highlands: CAL FIRE

Pile burns target wildfire fuels near Lake Berryessa community.

NAPA VALLEY, CA — Residents in the Highlands and drivers traveling along Highway 128 will likely see smoke throughout the day as crews burn stacked vegetation cleared from the area during previous fuel reduction work.

CAL FIRE crews will ignite pile burning operations Tuesday in the Berryessa Highlands community at the southern end of the lake as firefighters push forward with a multi-year effort to strip away dangerous wildfire fuels before summer heat and dry winds settle across the region.

Fire officials say the burns form part of a broader strategy to harden the community against fast-moving wildfires that have repeatedly threatened rural Northern California neighborhoods in recent years.
