Watch: Napa County Evacuation Warning Triggered By Steele Fire

NAPA VALLEY, CA — Residents in parts of Napa County should be prepared to evacuate if necessary amid a fire that broke out late this morning but quickly spread.

Napa County officials issued an evacuation warning at 11:45 a.m. Wednesday as the Steele Fire burned near the 9400 block of Steele Canyon Road.

The ripped through steep terrain south of Lake Berryessa, quickly prompting an evacuation order.

The warning covered zone BER-E008, east of Steele Canyon Road, west of Wragg Canyon Road, and north of Highway 128.

The warning was lifted at 1:05 p.m. as crews from the Cal Fire Sonoma-Lake-Napa Unit stopped the forward progress of the fire.

But, as of 4 p.m. they reported zero containment. More than 100 fire crew and 19 engines are still reported to be at the site.

The vegetation fire started around 10 a.m., according to CAL FIRE.

Flames had quickly engulfed roughly 70 acres by 11:16 a.m.

Napa County officials urged residents in the warning zone to stay vigilant and prepare to evacuate if needed.
