3 People Seen Fleeing After Vehicle Plunges Into Oceanside Harbor

OCEANSIDE, CA — A vehicle plunged into Oceanside Harbor and sank early Saturday, but no one was found inside, authorities said.

Oceanside firefighters were called about 2:55 a.m. to 1325 N. Harbor Drive, where crews found the vehicle completely submerged about 6 feet from shore, according to the Oceanside Fire Department.

Members of the Oceanside Marine Safety Unit entered the water and searched the vehicle and surrounding area. No one was found inside.

Witnesses told authorities they saw three people get out of the water and leave the area in a pickup truck before emergency crews arrived.

The vehicle was later pulled from the harbor and returned to the roadway by S&R Towing.

No injuries were reported.

The Oceanside Police Department is investigating how the vehicle ended up in the water. Oceanside firefighters and police were assisted by the Carlsbad Fire Department and Oceanside Marine Safety Unit.
