OC Couple Tried To Save Man Attacked By Crocodile At Resort: Report

ORANGE COUNTY, CA — Two San Clemente residents said they tried to save a tourist from a deadly crocodile attack at a resort in Mexico on Friday, ABC7 reported.

The attack took place at Marina Vallarta beach, right outside the Marriott Puerto Vallarta Resort & Spa in Puerto Vallerta, according to reports.

Chris Bury and his partner Jamie Yetter told the news outlet that they had just finished a beach walk and were heading for the swimming pool when they heard screams coming from the beach.

"It's pretty traumatizing," Bury told ABC7.

The couple followed the sound of screaming and saw the man — identified only as a 28-year-old named Irving from Mexico City — being attacked in the water by the crocodile and dragged out to sea.

According to Surfer.com, a massive overnight search by land and sea took place following the attack, with Mexican Navy personnel recovering the victim's body in a nearby estuary.

"I was in the water up to my waist, and he was maybe 20 feet away," Bury told Surfer.com. "I threw the life preserver, and he was in shock. He was flailing. Long story short, I hopped on the kayak, and by the time I got to him, it drug him under. And that was it. He was gone after that."

Following a massive overnight search by land and sea, Mexican Navy personnel tragically recovered the victim’s body near the Estero Boca Negra estuary. Wildlife officials tracking the area successfully located and secured the suspected crocodile near the same zone.

A local newspaper obtained images of the crocodile believed to be responsible for the attack.
