Woman, 66, ID'd In Fatal Orange County Crash

GARDEN GROVE, CA — Authorities Monday released the identity of a woman killed in a single-vehicle crash in Garden Grove Saturday.

The victim was identified as 66-year-old Maria Salgado Azucena, according to the Orange County Sheriff's Department.

The crash occurred just before 3 a.m. Saturday at Knott Street and Acacia Avenue when a 2007 Toyota Highlander slammed into a utility pole on the southeast corner of the intersection, according to Garden Grove police Sgt. Thomas Capps.

The driver, whose name was not released, was rushed to UC Irvine Medical Center with life-threatening injuries, Capps said. Azucena was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police were continuing to investigate what caused the crash, and no arrest had been made, Capps said.
