City officials delay vote on SCE outage resolution, seeking tougher terms – The Palm Desert Post (thepalmdesertpost.com) — Palm Desert residents should know that the City Council has postponed a vote on demanding stricter limits to Southern California Edison's planned power outages during the hottest months, asking staff to negotiate tougher terms by November. Councilmembers cited frequent outages, extreme summer heat, and risks to vulnerable residents, and signaled they want stronger infrastructure investment and better communication from the utility.
   

2. Coachella Valley Blood Drive Set for September 19 (nbcpalmsprings.com subscription) — Palm Desert residents can donate blood at the local YMCA on September 19 as part of a valley-wide drive running 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. For every unit donated, organizers will also contribute to FIND Food Bank, letting locals support both lifesaving care and hunger relief in one stop.
   

3. Palm Desert Library To Host Story Series For Emergency Preparedness (patch.com) — Families in Palm Desert can bring their young children to a free Emergency Preparedness Storytime series at the Palm Desert Library all month, starting September 15. First responders and city Public Works staff will share safety tips, stories, and let kids explore emergency vehicles, helping local parents plan for wildfires, floods, and other emergencies while getting their questions answered.
   

4. National Philanthropy Day honors outstanding philanthropic foundation (desertsun.com) — Palm Desert readers may be especially interested that Palm Desert Rotary partners with the Carreón Foundation to fund local scholarships, matching dollars to expand awards. The foundation, now serving a broader range of students, has reached a record $370,000 in scholarships this year and will be honored at National Philanthropy Day in Rancho Mirage on November 6.
   

5. Friday Night Lights Week 3: Xavier Prep Rolls, Palm Desert Wins as Valley Teams Struggle (nbcpalmsprings.com) — Palm Desert High School delivered one of the Coachella Valley's few bright spots in Week 3, beating Yucaipa 31-13 behind strong defense and a solid ground game. While most valley teams struggled, the Aztecs' win stands out for local fans following how Palm Desert stacks up this season.
