East Bay 99 Ranch Market To Close In December
The supermarket will close one of its 8 East Bay locations this December.

PLEASANTON, CA — The 99 Ranch Asian market on Rosewood Drive in Pleasanton will close Dec. 5, an employee confirmed to Patch.
The location at the Rose Pavilion is one of two 99 Ranch stores that are due to close this year, according to a Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification notice reviewed by the Los Angeles Times. The other location in Chino is due to close Nov. 15, according to The Times. The closure will affect 54 employees, according to the notice.
“This decision will optimize our store network and allocate resources more effectively to better serve our customers,” parent Tawa Supermarket, Inc. said in an email to the Los Angeles Times and Pleasanton Weekly. “With other 99 Ranch Market locations in the Tri-Valley and Chino/Chino Hills areas already, we remain committed to providing the community with convenient access to the quality products, diverse Pan-Asian food selections, and service our customers have come to expect.”

“We would like to express our sincere appreciation for your continued loyalty and support throughout the years. It has been our privilege to serve you and your families, and we are truly grateful for the trust you have placed in us,” a sign posted at the Pleasanton store, as reported by Pleasanton Weekly.
The store will continue its normal operating hours until Dec. 5, the employee told Patch.
The closure comes amid a wave of Asian supermarket openings and expansion plans across the East Bay. H Mart opened in Dublin in March, and another location in Fremont, expected to be the largest U.S. location, is expected to begin construction later this year. Tokyo Central opened a 40,000-square-foot Japanese supermarket in Emeryville in January, and Osaka Marketplace plans to open a 42,000-square-foot Japanese grocery store with a food hall in Pleasant Hill. Korean grocery chain Mega Mart announced plans to open in Dublin, though the status of the project remains unclear.
