• Newsom Signs Revamped 'No Robo Bosses Act' Into Law (shrm.org subscription) — A new California law taking effect in 2027 will require human oversight whenever employers primarily rely on AI systems to discipline or fire workers, and it was authored by Sen. Jerry McNerney from Pleasanton. For local employees and businesses, this means automated tools can't be the sole basis for termination, and companies must document human review and provide clear notices about how AI-influenced decisions were made.
