California egg ranch makes difficult choice in salmonella outbreak (mercurynews.com) — A salmonella outbreak tied by county health officials to Happy Hens, a Ramona egg ranch, has led the farm to halt sales from two of its three properties and begin costly large‑scale egg testing. 3. Research by QR code: A new perspective in food studies (sdsu.edu) — San Diego State student researcher Zora Heneghan is studying how QR codes on food packaging shape what information shoppers see, including a carton that invites people to visit Happy Hens' regenerative farm in Ramona. Her yearlong project will interview food companies about the shift to 2D barcodes, aiming to influence future labeling, transparency, and consumer education.
4. Wildfire Readiness as fuel conditions deteriorate (valleycenter.com) — San Diego County fire and emergency leaders say they've boosted staffing, technology, and aircraft ahead of a dangerous wildfire season, including a Cal Fire C‑130 Hercules now based in Ramona that reinforces the town's aviation hub role. Officials highlight expanded fuel‑reduction work, upgraded alert systems, and coordinated evacuation planning to better protect Ramona and other high‑risk communities.
