• City Lowers Speed Limits In Rancho Santa Margarita: What To Know (patch.com) — Rancho Santa Margarita drivers will soon face a reduced 20 mph speed limit in school zones, down from 25 mph, after a recent city vote. Using new authority under California Assembly Bill 382, the city is updating signs in coming weeks and urging motorists to slow down and stay alert to better protect students and families walking and biking near schools. 
• Governor Newsom signs legislation 8.27.2026 (ca.gov) — Rancho Santa Margarita residents are represented in a newly signed state law by local Assemblymember Kate Sanchez, whose bill creates a traffic signal synchronization pilot for the Western Riverside Council of Governments. Governor Newsom also approved a wide range of other measures on schools, elections, employment, and infrastructure that could indirectly affect residents across California.
