Redondo Beach (CA) Fire Chief Retiring (fireengineering.com subscription) — Redondo Beach's fire chief Patrick Butler is retiring next week after nearly 40 years in public safety, including leading the city's Fire Department and serving as Harbor Master. During his tenure, he bolstered paramedic staffing, added advanced life support squads, maintained a top ISO rating, and oversaw Measure FP projects to replace fire stations and build a new police station.
   

2. Health Officials Issue Ocean Water Warnings for Six LACo Beaches (mynewsla.com) — If you're heading to the water near Redondo Beach Pier, county health officials are warning you to stay out of the ocean for now due to elevated bacteria levels. The advisory covers 100 yards up and down the coast from the pier, along with several other L.A. County beaches. Check the county hotline or website before you swim, surf, or let kids play in the surf.
   

3. Lomita man who allegedly threatened Redondo Beach Jewish center to stand trial (dailybreeze.com) — A Lomita man has been ordered to stand trial after allegedly making multiple anti-Semitic, threatening phone calls to a Jewish community center in Redondo Beach in August, including a threat to "shoot up the place." Prosecutors say prior bias-related incidents led to a failed diversion program, and the new case now proceeds with felony hate-crime enhancements while the suspect remains jailed on high bail.
   

4. Sink Or Swim - What Price a Hermosa Pool? (hermosareview.com) — Hermosa Beach officials just created a subcommittee to study how residents could gain better pool access, and Redondo Beach is central to the discussion. Advocates are floating a three-city partnership where Redondo Beach and Manhattan Beach shoulder more costs, while a new pool is already planned at Beach Cities Health District's Redondo Beach campus by 2030. The next six months of study will shape whether South Bay swimmers see more options.
