1. Veterinary School Being Considered For UC Riverside Campus (patch.com) — UC Riverside and Riverside County are funding a $250,000 feasibility study to explore creating a veterinary school on the UCR campus, aiming to ease the region's veterinarian shortage. The study, running through January 2027, will examine academic, financial, and facility needs but does not yet commit either party to building the school.
   

2. Khudaverdyan awarded academic fellowship (asbmb.org) — A UC Riverside biochemistry Ph.D. candidate has earned the UC President's Pre-Professoriate Fellowship, bringing prestige to the campus and its research community. Her work on chromatin regulation and genome stability, plus extensive mentoring and outreach, is helping Riverside students and local high schoolers see clearer paths into scientific careers.
   

3. Average Riverside County gas price rises to highest amount since 2023 (kesq.com) — Riverside County drivers are now paying an average of $6.11 for regular gas, the highest price since October 2023 after more than a month of steady increases. Prices have jumped nearly 60 cents in 34 days and are up over $1.50 from a year ago, reflecting national spikes tied to rising oil costs.
   

4. Breaking: Hy 79 S Tem Fire reported in Riverside County on Sep. 21 (sacbee.com) — A new wildfire named the Hy 79 S Tem Fire was reported Monday night in Riverside County and is burning on private land, with cause and containment still unknown. Residents should stay alert for updates as fire officials track its behavior and potential threats to nearby communities.
