1. Riverside Unified Honors First 10 Students of the Semester (raincrossgazette.com) — Riverside Unified School District has launched a new Student of the Semester program, honoring ten local seniors for resilience, academics, and community service at a ceremony hosted by the Riverside County Office of Education. The district plans another recognition in March 2027 and a Student of the Year scholarship event in May, giving Riverside families more chances to celebrate standout students and support future honorees.
   

2. Riverside, CA Sends Proposed E-Bike Ordinance Back for More Review (electricbikeexplorer.com) — Riverside's City Council has sent a proposed e-bike and "e‑conveyance" ordinance back to committee, so none of the new restrictions are in effect yet. The Safety, Wellness and Youth Committee will now revisit rules for sidewalks, parks, trails like the Santa Ana River Trail, and youth enforcement after recent crashes and rising injury numbers.
   

3. Could California, Get a New Vet School? UC Riverside Just Funded a Study to Find Out (myvetcandy.com) — UC Riverside and Riverside County are jointly funding a $250,000 feasibility study to see if a regional veterinary school at UCR makes sense, aiming to ease local vet shortages. Supervisors approved $125,000 in county funds, with UCR covering the rest, to analyze space, staffing, and costs before any commitment to build a program that could benefit Riverside-area students and animal services.
   

4. Former Riverside City Manager Mike Futrell hired for same role in Hercules in the Bay Area (pressenterprise.com) — Riverside's former city manager Mike Futrell, who resigned in June after potential discipline was listed on a City Council agenda, has been hired as city manager in Hercules in the Bay Area. The story explains his new contract, his previous roles, and the circumstances surrounding his departure from Riverside, giving residents context on a key leadership change at City Hall.
   

5. Man admits pretending to be Riverside cop, receives probation (kesq.com) — A 29-year-old Corona man has admitted impersonating a police officer in Riverside by outfitting his Ford Explorer with lights and sirens, and has been sentenced to a year of probation plus 40 days in a work-release program. Riverside police say a traffic stop near Magnolia Avenue and McKinley Street led to the discovery of the gear and, after a home search, numerous firearms tied to his brother's separate probation case.
