2 Dead In Plane Crash At Montgomery-Gibbs Executive Airport In San Diego
The Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board were investigating the crash.
SAN DIEGO, CA — Two people were killed Monday when a plane crashed at Montgomery-Gibbs Executive Airport in San Diego, authorities said.
The Cessna 172 crashed shortly after 5:15 p.m. at the airport, also known as Montgomery Field, according to the Federal Aviation Administration. Both people aboard the single-engine plane died, FAA officials said.
The FAA temporarily closed the airport at 3750 John J. Montgomery Drive as crews extinguished a small fire on the runway and contained a fuel spill, according to San Diego Fire-Rescue Department. About 30 San Diego Fire-Rescue personnel responded to the crash.
