Gun Buyback Event Offers Gift Cards For Unwanted Firearms
Free gun locks will also be available while supplies last.
CHULA VISTA, CA — Residents can turn in unwanted firearms and receive gift cards during a gun safety event Aug. 15 in Chula Vista.
The event will take place from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the South Bay Superior Court at 500 Third Ave. Participants can receive $100 gift cards for handguns, rifles and shotguns, and $200 for assault weapons turned in during the event.
The San Diego County Sheriff's Office is partnering with the San Diego County District Attorney's Office, Chula Vista Police Department and National City Police Department for the event, which aims to remove unwanted firearms from the community.

Free gun locks will also be available while supplies last. Officials said residents can remain anonymous and no questions will be asked.
Firearms must be unloaded and in working order. Residents should place firearms in the trunk of their vehicle, where a deputy or officer will provide further instructions. All collected weapons will be destroyed.
