Man Killed In Deadly Golden Gate Boat Accident Identified

BAY AREA, CA — Authorities have identified the man who died in a deadly morning fishing trip Thursday morning at the Golden Gate Bridge.

Daniel Zhengyu Qin, a 35-year-old San Jose resident, died during surgery at a Marin County hospital, according to authorities.

Qin was on a fishing trip with two other men that turned deadly after their 25-foot boat struck rocks and capsized near the Golden Gate Bridge.

A caller reported a single boat in distress under the bridge at approximately 6:13 a.m., according to the Marin County Sheriff’s Office.

The fishing vessel ran aground near Lime Point beside the bridge’s north tower, struck rocks near the Golden Gate Bridge, and capsized in San Francisco Bay waters.

Authorities said all three people aboard initially suffered life-threatening injuries.

The disabled boat was taking on water when the U.S. Coast Guard reached it, the Marin County Sheriff’s Office said. Emergency crews removed the passengers from the frigid waters and provided medical care before paramedics transported them to a hospital.

Qin was in cardiac arrest and later died, while a second passenger remained in critical condition and the third was in stable condition, Southern Marin Fire District Battalion Chief Jason Golden said Thursday.

The SFPD Traffic Collision Investigation Unit’s Major Accident Investigation Team is investigating the crash.

Officials credited continuing joint training for the rapid response.
