Armed Suspect Arrested After Foot Chase Through SMC Neighborhood: Police

SAN BRUNO, CA — A parolee was arrested earlier this month after fleeing a traffic stop with a handgun, leading San Bruno police on a foot chase before he was found hiding in a residential neighborhood.

An officer attempted to stop a black SUV around 6 p.m. on July 14 for multiple vehicle code violations, according to the San Bruno Police Department. The vehicle stopped on the 400 block of Poplar Avenue, where police said the driver immediately got out armed with a handgun and ran.

Police said the suspect fled across busy El Camino Real and into a nearby neighborhood before officers found him hiding in the driveway of a home on the 400 block of Kensington Avenue.

During the chase, officers said the suspect threw the handgun into the backyard of a nearby residence. Police later recovered the loaded firearm and determined the 23-year-old San Bruno man was on parole and prohibited from possessing firearms or ammunition, police said.

Police have not released his identity at this time.

The suspect was booked into the San Mateo County Maguire Correctional Facility on suspicion of violating parole and multiple weapons-related offenses, police said.
