1. BVSD discusses school consolidation and closure options (boulderweekly.com) — Boulder Valley School District is weighing the Resilient School Proposal, which would close or consolidate several under-enrolled schools in Boulder, Broomfield, Louisville and Superior, including Douglass, Mesa, Flatirons and others. The plan reshapes boundaries, bell schedules, and special education programs, with key board discussions on Sept. 8 and a vote expected Sept. 22.
   

2. City of Boulder asking for input on opening pedestrian-only trail to bikes (cbsnews.com) — Boulder is asking residents to weigh in by August 30 on whether a new Shanahan–Doudy Draw connection should open a currently pedestrian-only trail to bikes in west Boulder Open Space. Mountain bikers cite safer access to Marshall Mesa and Doudy Draw, while conservation and neighborhood groups warn about ecological impacts and conflicts on already busy trails before council decisions in 2027.
   

3. Boulder's proposed 2027 budget includes 13 layoffs (dailycamera.com) — Boulder's proposed 2027 city budget closes a $6.3 million general-fund gap by laying off 13 employees, cutting vacant positions, and trimming some services, including child watch at East Boulder Community Center and reduced Scott Carpenter Pool hours. Spruce Pool is funded only through 2027, while $300,000 is earmarked for wildfire resilience work on homes, standards, and preparedness.
   

4. 'Goose' blows up the spot of Boulder house party (kdvr.com) — A famous jam band, Goose, surprised a Boulder neighborhood with an impromptu house-party set on 18th Street that drew a noise complaint and a visit from Boulder police. Officers, admittedly starstruck, still shut the show down and cited the resident, while the police chief stressed balancing live-music fun with respect for neighbors as students return.
   

5. Horse shot 36 times in reported Boulder County cruelty incident (kdvr.com) — Boulder County Sheriff's Office is investigating a disturbing case where two horses on Flagg Drive were shot with a pellet gun, one about 36 times, over two nights in August. Both animals are expected to survive, and deputies are asking anyone who noticed unusual activity, similar incidents, or suspicious vehicles on Aug. 10–11 to come forward.
