Absentee Ballots In Avon, What You Need To Know

Avon voters can now obtain absentee ballots for the Nov. 3 election, with completed ballots due by 8 p.m. Election Day.

AVON, CT — Avon voters planning to cast absentee ballots in the 2026 election can apply without providing a reason or excuse under a recently enacted state law.

Absentee ballots are now being issued to Avon voters for the Nov. 3 election, with voters no longer required to provide an excuse to use one in 2026, according to information from the town.

The town began issuing absentee ballots Friday, Oct. 2. Voters can apply online, download an application, or obtain one from the Avon Town Clerk's Office.

Avon officials are encouraging applicants to provide a phone number and email address so the Avon Town Clerk's Office can contact them if there is a problem with an application.

  • Applications: Voters can apply through the state's online absentee ballot portal, download a paper application, or obtain one from the Avon Town Clerk's Office.
  • Avon Town Clerk: Building 2, 60 W. Main St., Avon. The office can be reached at 860-409-4310.
  • Completing the ballot: Voters should follow the instructions included with the ballot. The privacy sleeve is optional.
  • Return envelope: Voters must print and sign their name on the official return envelope.
  • Returning ballots: Completed ballots may be returned by mail, placed in the official drop box or delivered in person to the Avon Town Clerk.
  • Deadline: Absentee ballots must be received by 8 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 3.

The town also cautions voters that only certain people are permitted to return an absentee ballot on someone else's behalf.

According to the town's voting guidance, improper possession or return of another person's absentee ballot is a Class D felony.
