CT's Backyard Wildlife Topic Of Avon Program

AVON, CT — Residents can learn surprising facts about the wildlife living in their own neighborhoods during a presentation by wildlife ecologist and author Brad Timm at the Avon Free Public Library, 281 Country Club Road, later this month.

Timm will present "Wildlife Out Your Window" at 6:30 p.m. Monday, July 27, in the library's Community Room. Registration is required.

The interactive program explores the plants and animals commonly found throughout New England, highlighting facts that may surprise even longtime nature enthusiasts.

Among the topics Timm plans to discuss are why blue jays are not actually blue, how some foxes can climb trees, and how hummingbirds are capable of beating their wings up to 200 times per second.

Using photographs, videos, and stories from his book, "Wildlife Out Your Window," Timm will introduce attendees to about 100 species commonly found in the northeastern United States while encouraging people to take a closer look at the wildlife in their own neighborhoods.

The presentation will also include practical suggestions for helping local wildlife, whether participants have a backyard, balcony, or simply a view from a window.

Library officials say the program is designed for curious nature lovers of all ages and will include opportunities for attendees to ask questions and participate in discussion.
