“This call came in during the height of the blizzard this morning; extreme snow and wind conditions made fire suppression efforts very challenging,” said AVFD Fire Chief Bruce Appell, also the town’s fire marshal and emergency manager. “Our crews worked swiftly to control the situation and ensure the safety of everyone involved."

He thanked mutual aid fire companies for their assistance, which included neighboring departments from Farmington, Canton, Simsbury, UConn, Burlington, Plainville, and New Hartford.

Appell said they "assisted on scene and provided station coverage and incident response in town, as well as all emergency responders who assisted at the scene.”

The fire was brought under control, and crews remained at the property for an extended period to check for hot spots.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the Avon Fire Marshal’s Office.
