After 2 Years, Beloved Berlin Shelter Dog Gets New Leash On Life

BERLIN, CT — A dog that spent more than two years at Berlin Animal Control has found a permanent home, town officials announced this week.

Berlin Animal Control said its longtime resident, Cricket, has been adopted and is settling into her new home, where she will have a fenced yard to play in.

"I am beyond grateful and excited to announce that our long-time resident 'Cricket' has gone to her loving, forever home," Berlin Animal Control wrote in a social media post. "She is already spoiled and will have a fenced yard to run around."

According to Berlin Animal Control, Cricket was found roaming in Berlin in 2024.

Staff said they worked extensively to find her a suitable home and cared for her while she remained at the shelter.

"She was treated very good here at Berlin Animal Control and loved, but as they say, there is no place like home," the post said. "YAYY my sweet girl you now have the life you always deserved!"

The Town of Berlin also celebrated the adoption in a separate social media post.

"Congratulations to longtime Berlin Animal Control resident, Cricket, as she has finally found her forever home after spending over two years with us," the town wrote.

The adoption marks the end of Cricket's lengthy stay at the municipal shelter and a successful outcome for animal control staff, who had continued searching for the right family for the dog.
