SOMERS, CT — A West Haven man has been charged with negligent homicide with a motor vehicle nearly a year after a three-vehicle crash on Main Street, according to Connecticut State Police.

Donald Chairamonte, 66, turned himself in at Troop C in Tolland on Oct. 22 after learning there was a warrant for his arrest. He also faces a charge of failure to grant the right of way, according to the state police announcement, which includes the arrest warrant.

The crash happened around 7:35 p.m. Nov. 7, 2025, near Main Street and Sunset Drive.

Christian Lee Nolan, 50, of Wales, Massachusetts, was driving a Mitsubishi Lancer involved in the collision, according to the affidavit. NBC Connecticut reported, citing police, that Nolan died five days later from his injuries.

Truck Entered Main Street, Police Say

According to the arrest warrant affidavit, Chairamonte was driving a Chevrolet truck out of the property at 23 Main St. as Nolan approached in the westbound lane.

Police allege the truck entered that lane and its front end struck the right front of Nolan’s car. The impact redirected the Mitsubishi into the eastbound lane, where it collided head-on with a Chrysler Voyager minivan driven by Georgette Henry, of Hartford, the affidavit states.

The minivan then continued onto the front lawn of 36 Main St. and struck a mailbox, according to investigators.

Witness Described The Collision

A witness, Lena Ciborowski, told police she saw a truck positioned perpendicular to the travel lanes, with no lights illuminated, shortly before the collision. She said she believed its front end was in the westbound breakdown lane rather than the travel lane, according to her sworn statement included in the affidavit.

Ciborowski described seeing the Mitsubishi spin and the minivan strike it head-on.

“I immediately called 911 and my husband got out to go check on the occupants of the vehicles,” she told police.

When responders arrived, Nolan was in the roadway receiving CPR. He was later flown to Hartford Hospital by Life Star, according to the affidavit.

Henry was taken to Hartford Hospital with minor injuries to her left leg. Her passenger, Marc Petig, of Somers, was taken to the hospital as a precaution and was not injured, police wrote. Chairamonte declined medical treatment.

Driver Described Collecting A Car

In a sworn statement to police, Chairamonte said he worked in junk removal and had traveled to Somers with his brother to collect a vehicle from the property.

He said they spent several hours removing the car from a garage because they could not find its keys. After loading it onto his truck, he began driving down the property toward Main Street, according to his statement.

Police described the road as dry, with a posted speed limit of 35 mph and overhead streetlights lighting the crash area.

Chairamonte was released on a promise to appear and is scheduled for arraignment Nov. 3 at Rockville Superior Court, state police said. The charges are allegations, and he is presumed innocent unless proven guilty.
