Three Arrested In Enfield

Police used an online sales listing during an investigation into dirt bike and ATV thefts.

ENFIELD, CT — An online listing advertising dirt bikes for sale was part of an Enfield police operation that ended with three men arrested after an alleged storage-unit break-in attempt.

WFSB reported that police set up the listing during “Operation Whiskey Throttle,” an investigation targeting dirt bike and ATV thefts from storage units, homes and businesses in surrounding areas.

Around 4 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 1, officers watching the location saw three men attempting to break into a unit, according to WFSB. The men ran when officers came out and ordered them to stop, the station reported.

Those arrested were Angelo Cruz, 21, Anthony Smith, 23, and Carlos Torres, 23, WFSB reported.

Cruz and Smith are from Worcester, Massachusetts; Torres had no listed address, according to the Journal Inquirer.

Each was charged with third-degree burglary, possession of burglary tools, third-degree criminal mischief, second-degree criminal trespass and interfering with police, the newspaper reported. Each was held on a $250,000 bond.

“These crimes have become very common and remain very difficult to solve if the suspects are not caught in the act,” police said, according to the Journal Inquirer.

WFSB reported that police thanked Mom’s Motorsports, Eric’s Auto Body and Stop, Drop and Lock Storage for providing equipment and facilities for the operation.
