New Report Adds Details To Enfield Abuse Case
A new report adds arrest warrant details to the case involving a 5-year-old boy.
ENFIELD, CT — Two adults charged in an Enfield child abuse case blamed the boy’s older brother for his injuries, according to arrest warrants reported by CT Insider.
The 5-year-old denied that account to a DCF investigator, the outlet reported.
Matthew Wezniak, 40, and Jessica Abelin, 33, both of Enfield, were arrested Sept. 8, as Patch previously reported.

The investigation began June 1 after the boy arrived at Enfield Street School with facial injuries. Police and the state Department of Children and Families investigated.
Police said Wezniak restrained the child in a way that blocked his breathing and compressed his body. Detective Rebecca J. Leger wrote that the “victim could not breathe,” according to CT Insider.

Wezniak faces charges of second-degree strangulation or suffocation, first-degree unlawful restraint, first-degree reckless endangerment, and risk of injury to a child.
Abelin is charged with risk of injury to a child. Police allege she knew the boy had been hurt but failed to protect him or get medical help.
CT Insider reported that Wezniak posted a $250,000 bond and is due in Hartford Superior Court on Oct. 28. Abelin was released on a promise to appear and is due Oct. 16.
The charges are allegations. Both defendants are presumed innocent unless proven guilty.
