Former Fairfield RTM Member Sentenced For Threatening Fairfield Police Officers: Feds
Raymond Neuberger was accused of sending threatening texts to Fairfield police last year.

FAIRFIELD, CT — A former Fairfield Representative Town Meeting member was sentenced Wednesday to 39 months in federal prison for threatening to kill Fairfield police officers, U.S. Attorney David X. Sullivan announced.
Raymond Neuberger, 42, who now lives in Easton, also was sentenced by U.S. District Judge Omar A. Williams in Hartford to three years of supervised release and ordered to pay a $15,000 fine, Sullivan said.
In December 2025, Neuberger pleaded guilty in the case to transmitting interstate communications containing a threat to injure.

Neuberger served on the RTM from 2013 to 2017, and in 2016, he also ran and lost to state Rep. Cristin McCarthy Vahey in the 133rd District.
According to court documents and statements made in court, Neuberger sent text messages to an individual on April 24, 2025, threatening to kill Fairfield police officers.

Later that day, Neuberger stopped his vehicle in the middle of Post Road in Fairfield, yelled profanities and made an obscene gesture at a Fairfield police officer, according to prosecutors. He then drove to the Fairfield Police Department, where he encountered the same officer and again yelled profanities and made an obscene gesture.
Prosecutors said Neuberger continued making threats in calls to the Fairfield County Regional Dispatch Center and Fairfield police.
Neuberger also sent threatening text messages to another person, including messages stating, "I'm going to kill all the Fairfield cops," "Tell Fairfield PD I'm close to snapping," and "I'm armed," according to court documents.
Neuberger also placed a letter in the mailbox of a neighbor who is an FBI special agent, prosecutors said. The letter stated, "BACK THE BUREAU OFF BEFORE ITS TOO LATE – Ray Neuberger."
"Threatening police officers and federal agents who put their lives on the line to keep our communities safe is intolerable behavior, and this sentence is warranted," Sullivan said in a statement. "Our office will continue to act swiftly to protect those who serve and uphold public safety."
Added FBI Special Agent in Charge P.J. O'Brien, "Today’s sentencing holds Raymond Neuberger accountable for his criminal conduct and reflects the serious consequences of his actions. This outcome is the result of the dedicated work of the investigators, prosecutors, and law enforcement partners who remained committed to pursuing justice. The FBI will continue to work alongside our partners who remain committed to investigating those who commit serious crimes, and ensure that victims and their families are not forgotten in the pursuit of justice."
Neuberger was arrested on related state charges April 29, 2025. The state case is still pending, and his next scheduled court date is today, Aug. 20.
Wednesday's sentencing was not the first time Neuberger has been sentenced to prison. In 2023 and 2024, he served time in connection with an animal cruelty case, for which he was convicted of torturing cats.
Neuberger had been released on bond in the federal case, but was remanded to custody after Wednesday's court proceeding.
The FBI and Fairfield Police Department investigated the case. Assistant U.S. Attorney Konstantin Lantsman prosecuted it.
