Fairfield Arts Commission Receives Grant To Support Downtown Cultural District (patch.com) — Fairfield's downtown Cultural District is getting a boost from a $5,000 Connecticut Main Street Center grant, helping fund new branding, signage and programming. Local officials say the six‑month Accelerator program turned long-discussed ideas into an actionable plan to highlight arts venues, support small businesses and make the walkable downtown even more inviting for residents and visitors.
   

2. 4 Students From Fairfield Schools Named Among 2027 National Merit Scholarship Semifinalists (patch.com) — Four standout students from Fairfield's high schools have been named 2027 National Merit Scholarship semifinalists, placing them among the top-scoring seniors nationwide. The recognition gives these Fairfield scholars a chance to compete for thousands of dollars in college scholarships, based on their academic records, activities, leadership and test scores over the coming year.
   

3. Connecticut's Sacred Heart University Debuts Undergraduate Degree in Construction Management (wrenews.com) — Sacred Heart University in Fairfield is launching a new bachelor's degree in construction management, blending engineering, business, and hands-on field experience. Local students interested in construction careers can expect small classes, required business minors, and training in safety, cost control, scheduling, contracts, and digital construction tools that prepare them for strong job prospects in a growing industry.
   

4. Gary Lansing Orelup, 78 (newcanaanite.com) — Fairfield residents are mourning 78-year-old Gary Lansing Orelup, who recently lived at Sunrise of Fairfield to be closer to family and passed away on September 2 after a brief illness. A longtime Fairfield County architect and Cornell graduate, he is remembered as a devoted husband, father, and grandfather, with a public remembrance planned in New Canaan on October 3.
   

5. River Hawks hope to take that next step in 2026 (collinsvillepress.com) — Farmington High's River Hawks will visit Fairfield Warde on Friday, Sept. 18, giving Fairfield fans a first-ever look at this matchup in Connecticut Football Alliance play. With an experienced quarterback and deep offensive and defensive lines, Farmington is pushing for its first winning season since 2018, making the Fairfield road game an early test for both programs.
