Hearing On Major Sidewalk Project Is Next Week In Farmington

The Farmington Town Council will host a public hearing next week on the Meadow Road sidewalk plan.

FARMINGTON, CT — A key sidewalk project in town will be subject to a public hearing next week before Farmington's top elected body can formally OK the work and start construction.

A public hearing on the proposed Meadow Road sidewalk project is scheduled for Tuesday, April 28, at 7:05 p.m. in the Farmington Town Hall Annex Council Chambers on Monteith Drive, as required before the Farmington Town Council can vote on the project.

The council will meet after the hearing and, possibly, decide on the project.

The hearing is part of the process outlined in the town charter, which mandates public input and a subsequent council vote prior to the start of construction.

The project calls for a new sidewalk along Meadow Road, beginning at the intersection with New Britain Avenue and extending to Wisteria Lane.

Town officials said the project is currently in the design phase.

Funding for the sidewalk includes a $500,000 state grant awarded through Connecticut’s Small Town Economic Assistance Program.

The grant is administered by the state Department of Transportation.

Once the design is finalized, the project will proceed through the required state and local permitting and approvals. Following those steps, construction will be put out to bid.

The sidewalk project is included in Farmington’s 2024–2031 Capital Improvement Program, with funding allocated for the 2025–2026 fiscal year.

If approved, construction is expected to begin later this year.
