Multi-Town Home Hazardous Waste Collection Is This Weekend

FARMINGTON, CT — Several area towns are partnering to host three regional household hazardous waste collection events in 2026, the first one being this Saturday, April 25, in Farmington.

The collection events will offer residents a way to safely dispose of materials that cannot be placed in regular trash.

Avon, Farmington, Canton, Granby, Simsbury, and Suffield are collaborating on the program.

The collections are intended to prevent hazardous materials—such as pesticides, paints, cleaning chemicals, and antifreeze—from entering local transfer stations and landfills.

All events will run from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. and are open to residents of the six participating towns.

Attendees must bring proof of residency, and disposal is limited to typical household quantities. Commercial waste will not be accepted.

The scheduled 2026 collection dates are:

• Saturday, April 25, at Farmington High School, 10 Monteith Drive, Farmington
• Saturday, June 13, at Simsbury Public Works Facility, 66 Town Forest Road, West Simsbury
• Saturday, Oct. 10, at the Simsbury Public Works Facility, 66 Town Forest Road, West Simsbury

Residents are required to remain in their vehicles during the events and will be directed by staff on how to unload materials.

In addition to hazardous waste, attendees may bring up to two copy paper–sized boxes of documents for on-site shredding.

Town officials advised residents who only need to dispose of paint to consider the statewide PaintCare program instead, noting that lines at collection events can be long.

The program, established under a 2013 Connecticut law, provides drop-off sites for paint recycling and promotes responsible purchasing and usage.
