FARMINGTON, CT — Star Students are found in classrooms, on concert and theater stages and at debate lecterns, and out in the community doing good things to make life better for all of us.

Here at Patch, we've launched an initiative to help recognize Star Students, and we’re working to tell the stories of these outstanding kids to their neighbors.

This submission comes from Patricia Krupnikoff who nominated her daughter, Lauren from Farmington.

Why do you believe the star local student should be recognized?

As an honors student, three-sport athlete, musician and overall contributor to her school community, Lauren strives to achieve all that she can as a senior at the Ethel Walker School. As a Co-Head of two clubs (French Club and Jewish Student Union), a leader in the Ethel Walker Athletic Council and a member of the school tour guide ambassadors called Ciccerones, Lauren demonstrates a commitment to helping others on a daily basis. Previous to this school year, Lauren also served on the school's Equity Team as her grade representative, helping to support all students to be acknowledged. included and accepted by attending training sessions and leading workshops on campus. Recently, Lauren spent part of her spring break with a group of students from her school helping to build a house for a family in Texas through Habitat for Humanity. Overall, Lauren works to set a strong example of being a well rounded, service oriented student. Next year, in college, she wishes to major in Sports Management so she can support and encourage female athletes to excel on the field, court or venue of the highest level.

What's one thing you want everyone to know about the star local student?

As a student-athlete since kindergarten, Lauren always works hard to be a good, but competitive leader and role model for others. She has earned a coach's award for all three of the varsity sports she plays in the past few years and been named captain for two of them (the third season has not started). Prior to helping out with Habitat for Humanity, she helped with Unified Arts for adults with special needs and volunteered at a therapeutic horse farm for children with special needs on weekends. In these roles, Lauren often puts the needs of others before herself.

Congratulations on your achievements, and all of our best wishes to you in the future, Lauren.
