Middletown Council To Consider $68.4 Million In Bonds For Schools, Downtown Parking

MIDDLETOWN, CT — The Middletown Common Council is scheduled to consider borrowing $68.4 million for two major capital projects during a special meeting Aug. 20.

The council will conduct a public hearing before considering two bond ordinance appropriations, according to the meeting agenda.

The first proposal would appropriate $30.426 million for Phase I of the Middletown Public Schools Districtwide Infrastructure Project. The ordinance would authorize the city to issue $30.426 million in bonds to fund the appropriation.

The proposal also would authorize temporary borrowing for the project while the bonds are being issued.

The second proposal would appropriate $38 million for a downtown area parking facility project. The ordinance would authorize the city to issue $38 million in bonds for the project and allow temporary borrowing pending the issuance of the bonds.

Combined, the two proposed appropriations total $68.426 million in authorized borrowing.

The Common Council's special meeting is scheduled for Aug. 20. The agenda calls for a public hearing on the agenda items before the council considers the bond ordinances.
